Cellular Service on STX

Hello y'all!

I am moving to STX in mid-August and had a quick question about cell phone service.

I did a quick search and in an old post someone recommended Cingular's coverage in the Virgin Islands.

Should I set up an account here in the U.S. before I move or is there a Cingular store/kiosk somewhere on STX?

Thanks!

Doug

Sprint is another on island provider.. I hate going into the store, but the service I've had over the phone and the web has been really, really good. We just renewed the two year contract that we started when we got down here, and got a couple of new phones to go with it. The only place I've found that I don't get service is North Shore... and my phone sometimes won't ring inside of my house, because of the concrete.

yes, there is a local Cingular store and you sometimes get a better "nationwide" plan here than you can get from a store on the mainland. I know my coverage includes free long distance to the mainland, but my sister's cingular service from up there charges her long distance to call the USVI. You wouldn't want to get here with a phone and number that were going to cost you long distance fees to call local island numbers!

Coverage is pretty good with Cingular in both stx and stt. I have a stateside plan with Cingular and get no extra charges calling from/to either direction.

I recently moved from STT to STX. My Sprint worked as well on STT as anyone else's service, but here on STX we are having big problems. We are in Estate St. John, just a few miles west of Christiansted. People come to our house and their Cingular works fine, but not Sprint. Most of the people I have talked to about it since I have been here agree that Cingular is much better. I'm sure it all depends where you are.

you might also try the radio shack store. they do a big cellular business and i think they sell the cingular plans and go phones and were easier to deal with than the cingular store. they aren't far apart, so you can try them both.

one caution (at least)...no matter your carrier, if you are in places like the east side of Peterborg on STT and catch the BVI Boat tower, you'll get charged about a million dollars a minute. There might be other similar situations although I am not aware of them. Doesn't happen often, but you at least have now been warned.
