Steph.....It really comes down to boundries......I'll answer the questions.. I THINK.. are appropriate,,...I'll answer the front door if I'm home...unless it's Roto ..lol I'll be polite and respectful as I am with most people....see it 's not that I'd fly off the handle or use poor judgement..BUT when my kids including two daughters were home alone, they were taught not to answer the front door ...play in the Back Yard until an adult was home....see what I'm saying...my job as a father is to among other things is to try and protect them from people who would do them harm....there are countless stories of people who had a casual contact with someone at thier home and later came back to assualt them...so anything I can do to create a safe boundry ...ie my back yard ... I believe I'm justified in protecting. So IF someone violates my boudries ...whether it be in my face or backyard it's a natural response to push back.........My dog isn't vicious unless I tell him to be....he has a beautiful full set of teeth he'd show an intruder ....please re-read my quick story the tresspasser had the shotgun and Doberman not me...After youv'e got a few gray hairs ....things will look alot clearer..:-)

Most likely not, considering that my religion dictates that I am absolutely not to harm or offer any threat to the safety of another human being who does not pose an immediate danger to me or to another person.

My Census Taker was just here. Put him on the front porch. He was very polite. While I did not answer all the questions I answered most of them. Poor fella, my chihuahua settled her protective self on the ledge behind his head and gave him a sharp bark every time he leaned towards me. He was clearly not comfortable.

Someone sure can find out lots of information based on the answers to the 71 questions in the Census 2010 questionnaire.
For example: (fictitious person and answers)

One person lives here. (question 1 – front cover)
The address is --- 2B Ware Road House # ICU
(questions on back cover include:
House #
Road name
Estate name
Plot #
House # (redundant ?)
Physical landmark/Other identifying information
Island
Zip code)

Chris Sumting is the person’s name (question 1 page 2, question 1 page 3)
Chris’s phone number is 340-555-6666 (question 2)
Chris is a female (question 3)
Chris is 60 years old (question 4)

Chris leaves for work at 6:30 AM (question 30)
Chris drives her car to work and takes a ferry. (question 29)
It takes her 45 minutes to get to work. (question 31)
Chris works in St. John, Coral Bay (question 27)
Chris works at XYZ school. (question 37)

Chris makes $123,000.00 a year (many income questions)
She has a 7 room house (question 53a)
There are 3 bedroom (question 53b)
There is only 1 car at this location (question 56)
Chris has a laptop (question 58a)
Chris has internet connection (question 58b)
Chris’s house is not part of a condominium (question 61)
Chris has a landline phone only, no cell phone (question 55)

And so many many more questions –

Now someone, (the Census taker for one) knows an awful lot about Chris Sumting.

I would like to know what the answers to these questions are going to be used for,
who will use them, and how these answers will remain “confidential”.

As it was explained to me, the extremely detailed location information is the first step in documenting exactly what dwellings are where, including apartments added on to people's property, in order to allow for the new address system, so it's going to be used by the VI government in that sense.

Stephyih,

All of the articles I have read speak to the fact that the census form cannot be mailed back, due to the lack of an address system, not that it will be used to create one.
Where did you see that the census information from the questionnaire will be used to create an address system?
Also, do you have any idea what the other questions will be used for --- such as what time you leave for work, and how long it takes to get there etc ....... ?

FDR used census information to round up loyal Japanese Americans and put them in concentration camps. I don't believe that this info will not be used for the wrong reasons if some bureaucrat wants to do the wrong thing.

Why is it that people always point out the Japanese-Americans in the internment camps (concentration camps were the ones in Europe where people were being exterminated, not just incarcerated) but fail to point out the number of people held in the same camps who were of European descent? Just an observation. I mean, it was horrible to do that to so many people, but it seems to me that it's sadder in retrospect for the German and Italian immigrants who were held, for the simple reason that history seems to have forgotten them.

Well, I went to the Census office today, and told them I wanted to be counted. They said I had to take the form home, fill it out, and wait for someone to come by and pick it up. I told them in several different ways that that wasn't an option. I wanted to fill out the form there and now to be counted. I finally told them I was homeless, and of course they didn't believe that, but I told them that was my story and I'm sticking to it. So they sent me to a supervisor, he saw that I had filled out the first 9 pages of the form, had my phone number filled in, and said he needed to map me somewhere so I gave him my work address. He finally agreed that he'd count me as homeless, but said I may receive a follow-up call. OK by me, and if we get more money for the homeless, it's all because of ME!

They really need to be more flexible. Since many properties in the VI have rental units, there's a good probability that someone at that address is going to be fill out the form with all the info. Why does everybody who live there have to repeat the info? Some of the info, like your disabilities, is collected through other service providers, because I doubt that in the VI anybody who's entitled to services isn't taking advantage of them unless they're here illegally, and they are less willing than those here legally to be counted.

As far as mapping, hello, haven't they heard of Google maps????
