Hello,
Does anyone know what happened to Chris Sawyer's operation in Red Hook? It looks like he let most of the staff go and centralized his operation over in St John. Anybody know what happened to the staff? Is another dive operator going into Red Hook?
I really liked the accessibility of the place and thought that the operation was a good one.
Thanks

The coconut telegraph says otherwise. My Poly Sci professor in college said if you don't like what something is call it something else. My understanding is that a combination of a slower economy, a couple business mistakes and a serious boat repair all contributed to a cash flow problem. The Caneel Bay Location is still open and hopefully the business will recover. I suspect someone will step up in short order and move into Red Hook. I have heard rumors that some of his previous employees have considered reopening in Red Hook.

Thanks for the update Jay. What I subsequently read from other sources is consistent with your understanding. It seems logical for another operator to move into the old location, however, the rent for the Red Hook site must be very expensive. On a dive related forum, it is speculated that someone will be in there in November. I wonder if they pulled the compressor out of there.
Too bad, as Chris had an excellent staff @ Red Hook.
