Climate comparison: South Florida vs USVI

For those who lived both in South Florida (like Miami) and USVI, can you comment on how the weather compares? Specifically, I am interested in what some refer to as the "comfort index", which takes both the temperature and the humidity into consideration. I did look up the monthly averages, but it doesn't tell me how it *feels* in South Florida and USVI by comparison, especially during the summer. Thank you.

Totally depends on where you live. I live on the northside of STT and we get constant trade winds. Nights in winter I'm under a blanket, summer I have fans but totally comfortable. I often wear jeans but then when I go into town I'm sweating and it feels at least 5' hotter. I also have good friends who live on the northside down by the water and they don't get good breezes. Their place is HOT and they need AC. No AC at my place and none needed.

We also stayed in STX in June for a month on the east end. Was hot but not enough for AC.

This is also all relevant - I'm from Arizona so 118 was the norm and I love heat. HATE cold - my house here will get into the low 70s and I need blankets and sweat pants.

i lived in the keys for three years. the summers are hotter there, the winters are colder there. the humidity seems greater here in the summer. they have more and better thunderstorms. their spring is really much nicer.

in the summer there you need air and you can afford it. in the winter there you need blankets and sweaters. sometimes even a space heater. here you do not

you do become acclimated to the weather in both places so that 70 feels chilly.

Thanks, AandA2VI. I didn't realize it varies that much across the USVI.

We lived on a hill on the East End of STX. Nights in Jan - February we often would get cold, I would be under the blankets on the bed, all windows closed, hubby in a hoodie, etc. I remember two years ago it was COLD and windy for a while and I was waiting for it to get warm again, even during the day! And then last summer I was HOT - I spent much of July - September in front of a fan, and I broke out in hives all over my face from the heat. It was not a pleasant experience. In general though the weather was nice with some extremes.

We now live in SW Florida (Fort Myers area) and the winter months have been lovely. Generally in the 70s and 80s and sunny, quite comfortable, all the lanai doors open, etc. We do have cold days though when a cold front blows through, but those are generally in the 60s, rarely 50s, and it warms up again in a day or two. The summers are hotter - 90s. The humidity and rainfall in both locations is comparable.

I did live in Austin TX prior, and it gets HOT in the summer. It does not get as hot here. But it is hot enough to enjoy the beach and outdoors and a beer or a bucket of crabs on a patio. I am very comfortable here in FL without too much extreme. I think the cold feels cold in both places due to the humidity - I have felt colder on both STX and in FL than I ever did when I lived in NYC.

I would classify both places as having lovely climates, FL has more temperature variation between Summer and Winter, however I am grateful now to have affordable central AC and heat when I want to turn it on.
