Looking for info on Club 54. Is it a happenin' spot? Lots of tourists? Just a local's club? Will I be safe there or are there a bunch of thug types? Good reputation or bad? Etc....

Any other good places to party and dance in Christiansted?

Thanks all!

Looking for info on Club 54. Is it a happenin' spot? YES

Lots of tourists? NO

Just a local's club? YES

Will I be safe there or are there a bunch of thug types? THUG TYPES

Good reputation or bad? FOR ME, WHO DOESN'T WANT TO LISTEN TO LIVE BANDS WITH WEED BLOWING IN MY FACE, BAD

Etc....YOU CAN'T FIND A BETTER CLUB, WITH A GREAT (!!!) STAGE FOR LIVE MUSIC, AND A GREAT DANCE FLOOR. I CAN'T SAY THAT I HAVE BEEN ON STX FOR A LONG TIME, BUT I CAN REMEMBER WHEN CLUB 54 WAS A SAFE, FUN PLACE FOR ME AND MY FRIENDS TO GO TO. AT 3 AM, THEY USED TO LOCK THE DOORS AND YOU WOULD PARTY UNTIL YOU WERE READY TO LEAVE. WHAT HAPPENED, I DON'T KNOW. I DO THINK THAT CLUB 54 COULD BE A GREAT PLACE TO GO AND PARTY, AGAIN, AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A STRONG COMMITMENT TO KEEPING THE "THUGS" OUT.

Maybe a good question is "can I keep the "thugs" out?" I say "yes". (I feel) Parrot's Cove failed because of all the noise audences in the form of fines (is that the word I am looking for... audences?) that was levied against it. The owner/manager may have had money troubles with all the fines (which I do support fines for noise violations, not fun if you can't talk to your buddy sitting next to you, or hit on the hot girl in the corner because you have to scream at her (not at least until after the wedding right guys? Guys?). But I did see the owner/manager kick out "thugs" on a regular occasion. Because of that, I applaud him and I gave him as much patriotism as I could and I often talked my friends into drinking there. In fact, I will start "hitting" Chenay Bay because I know it will be a good, safe crowd since he is there (is that where he went?). Will he still have the sliders (yummm...sliders...).

Now that Parrot's Cove is gone, there are not many "dance" places to go to where I can drink and speak only English (oops, let me retract that...mea culpa). ChefDave, start a good, safe, friendly dance club. That will bring in the girls. Bringing in the girls is 3/4 the battle... the guys will follow. Just know that I can't dance (!!!) so keep the pool tables or something there for me not look like a goof!!! I just recently perfected the "robot" (don't want to age myself), sounds corny but you will be screaming after you see "Terminator"!!!

The hardest part will be to keep the "thugs" off the street outside. Bongos was a good place to go and get a drink. They were getting tough about keeping the "thugs" out, with putting security at the front door. But after having a few drinks and walking outside, one would be accosted (wanna by a bag? Maybe a little more?) by "thugs". The worst about Bongos was the (sanctioned, which I will never testify to) fights in the courtyard, which I cannot say that I didn't drink to much and didn't take part in. But it seemed to run off the girls, which ran off the guys.

Good luck in your decisions. I do hope that someone (maybe YOU) reopens Club 54, maybe under a new name with a new clientele (clientele...correct spelling, I had to look it up).

P.S.
Some of my friends proof read this post before I posted it. They were very mad at me, they said "thugs" didn't you just mean to write/say "locals". I said BALDERDASH!!! To this day I am not sure what "Balderdash" actually means, but I think that I won the game and will tell you I did even if I didn't.

P.P.S.

I don't mean to offend by the "locals" comment by my friends.

Some of my friends are what I consider "locals".

A "thug" is a "thug", no matter where they are from and my friends aren't thugs.

I have been referred to as a "thug" a time or two.

Erroneously of course *-).

I'd say 54 is a locals spot and during season there's plenty of tourists on a weekend. Yeah, there's clouds of weed smoke and it's loud but that's part of the charm.

On the nights of live music there will be plenty of 20-30s hanging out. On the other nights without bands, it's laid back with TVs going, pool table, and Golden Tee.

It all depends on what a thug is to you. There will be thugs hanging around but if you act right then it shouldn't be a problem. But, I wouldn't recommend stumbling out the front door by yourself for the walk to your car. If you're with friends and know where you're headed afterward it's fine. I think thugs add character to any bar.

Joe and Vick are great people I'd recommend it!

It seems pretty thuggy to me. 20=30 age range seems to high. I always see about 20 to 30 very young guys hangin out in front of it. I see that many very young guys hanging out and to me as a woman thats enough of a warning to stay away. What they say and how they act when you go there has made me extremely uncomfortable so we just don't go there. We used to always make the walk between bongos, 54, brew pub, styx, etc but we don't go further then bombay in the last year or more. Its just become dangerous over there.

They're open Thursday through Saturday, I believe. I haven't been there in awhile. Once Moonraker closed, all the people who used to make it dangerous up there moved on to 54. It always looks so dead when i drive by.

Brew Pub usually has fun stuff happening on the weekends. And then of course Tuesday is Buy 1, Get 1 Well drinks, beer, and wine. Tons of 20s+ show up for that. 5:00-9:00.

Not too many places to go dance down here. The Tutto Bene Disco Party is the spot to go do this. It is the First Saturday of each month. $5 to get in. In the beginning, it's disco music and then it turns to reggae and dancehall. Hard to get a drink there, but they open it up and have a great dance floor.

Whenever Kurt Schindler plays, people go. Everyone dances. He plays all over. The really fun place is the Domino Club when he plays on Sundays - the last Sunday of the month. I thought he wasn't doing it anymore, but he will be there on Sunday, May 31st. 6:00-until. He'll be at Zebos on Saturday May 30th. 9:00-12:00. It's his first show there.

Club 54 use to be a nice place to go. Use to be something else (forget the name)
Back in early 90's use to be a "nonthug" place. had some good state side bands and alot cleaner.

Should turn it into an 80's DISCO BAR. !!! 😎

Would be fun for us older folks. But then we are to old to stay out past 10:00 and after that the "thugs" can have it.

SOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! get out your platforms and poly suits.

That'd be great! And there's plenty of people in their thirties that party hard every weedend. I think it would have a chance at making money especially if they had secruity like brew pub does.

We usually stop by 54 almost every weekend. Not because it's a happening spot..we do it to kill time...Panchie doesn't start serving food until around 3am...so we do the town walk to kill time.

Its crazy that the street pharmacist just hang out across from Bongo's and 54 all night long. They make it an uncomfortable environment for anyone...and we go out ALL THE TIME.

It sucks that the police presence disappears around midnight and even if they are out after midnight, they (VIPD) are rarely up that far...they usually hang out on the boardwalk....which is good for Rumrunner, Styxx and Brew Pub

Yes great bouncer type security. And of course somewhere safe to park. Would be great fine dinner and disco. But wait....
we have to have a white castle for afterwards. or an all night breakfast place.

And where would we get platforms. Hey we could be on to something here. What goes around comes back around.

Wow. Great info everybody. Thanks so much.

BTW, I think of a "thug type" as someone who is a bully who uses intimidation and the threat of violence to get their way. Typically up to no good regardless of race or color.

LOVE 80's NIGHTS! It was cool to wear neon and spandex at the same time!!! 🙂

What makes here different from anywhere else? I wouldn't take those "wanna-be" thugs lightly. They can mess up your day.

Lets take our "wanna be thugs" and give them a one way ticket to the meaniest lowest part of N.Y. City or L.A. and see how threatening they can be. Think they are so tough here. Would probably cry like babies.

We went downtown Sunday night for dinner and it was so lovely. People and kids were out strolling on the boardwalk eating ice cream cones, people walking dogs, couples holding hands, like a downtown boardwalk should be. Saw a few policemen wandering around.
Maybe we could get concerts on the boardwalk easly sunday afternoons.

The restaurants that were open were packed. and if there were any thugs around they must of been hiding out or sleeping it off.

Thugs don't hang out on the boardwalk. Places we're talking about are on company st, two blocks up. 🙂

Edited.... Well they come down to steal and sell pot. Friend just had her wallet stolen last weekend on the boardwalk.

I've been hanging out on Company Street for years and have only seen one unfortuante incident where 2 Hovensa guys got into a fight and one killed the other. These guys would never have been thought of as "thugs" beforehand. The crowd that hangs out up there may look a little rough, and there is certainly some "street pharmacy" stuff going on, but I've not seen any huge problems. I agree though that its ridiculous that the cops never patrol this block...but remember where we are.

Joe and Vick who own 54 are great and they are smart enough to know who's trouble and who's not and also keep adequate staff around to make sure things are safe. They are ususally open on Friday and Saturday, the front bar is usually a place to chill with the back being the "club" section that can widely vary in what is going on. Sometimes its a band, othertimes its a DJ from Puerto Rico or somewhere else. Depending on who is back there the scene will obviously vary, but the front bar is always pretty chill. Joe usually has the fights on fight night (UFC/Boxing) and its the place to be to see them if you are a fan of the pugilism!
