We are coming to STJ in June with our children, ages 6 and 2. Does anyone know if we can visit any schools during June?

Does anyone have information good or bad about Guy H. Benjamin school in Coral Bay as well as the St. John School on Gifft Hill (especially anyone that has had/has children attending)? I realize that St. John School is private.

Also, I would love to get in contact with a family living in STJ that is middle class so that I could ask specific questions about island living with a family.

With the cost of housing over there I wouldn't think so.

I am speaking of people that don't necessary own $3 million+ homes... maybe those that rent.

Most rentals on STJ are vacation rentals. It is not unusual for a small rental, either a studio or one bedroom, to cost 2,000 to 3,000 a week. If there are "middle class" people who live and own on STJ, they are probably native St. Jonians who have inherited the land.

I doubt very much you can find a family home that you can afford. You might look for a 2-3 bedroom apartment in a condo unit.

Hi, we live on STJ and have 3 children that attend Gifft HIll School. They absolutely love it. My husband works for the Westin St. John and we had no problem finding housing. We rent. There are lots of rentals for families. Most places are 2 BR and will run you between $2000-$2500 a month plus all your utilities. We got lucky and rent a 3 BR for $2000. Not sure what you are expecting to pay per month though.

I don't know much about Guy Benjamin school, but it would be inconvenient unless you are going to live in Coral Bay. If you have any questions about Gifft Hill School I'd be happy to answer anything. My kids are 3, 5 and 6 (Pre-school, Pre-K and Kindergarten)

I have a daughter in 7th grade at Gifft Hill School. She commutes from St. Thomas though which is where we live. I love the school. Great teachers and a great program. She works hard and loves school as much as a 12 year old loves school. She just started going this year - prior to that she attended Montessori on St. Thomas.
