Ill be moving to the VI in 9 days now. And have found 2 jobs for computer related work so far.

One as a wireless network installer and one as a computer/network technician.

Up until this move I have been self employed as a on site computer technician. I would go to my clients homes or places of work and fix whatever problem they had with their computer big or small.

If neither of the 2 jobs I try to get works out. Im curious what kind of need there is for someone like me on the islands.

Wondering about the feasability of starting my business up again.

Thanks
Ian

Hello Ian,

What island are you moving to? On St. Thomas I think you could make a go at your 'call to site computer repair' business. If you look in the yellow pages, www.viphonebook.com , you will notice there aren't a whole lot of computer installation, repair, servicing, networking people... granted there are some that work by word of mouth as a sidejob. Research it.

I saw a truck for computer repair and install services in STX. They where networking the hotel we stayed at. I would research how many companies offer such support. I know certain computers you can not buy on the island and you have to order via web. I daubt that those companies have support staff in the Island. I wonder if they hire people as consulatant as Hotels or larger firms would perhaps insist on that kind of support in order to buy from a certain computer company. My dh is in the computer field as well. I have been keeping my eye open. He is Mac as well as PC. We are looking on STX. How much have your charged on the mainland for your services?
Thanks

Iris

Ive looked at the us vi phone book and it doesnt look like ther are alot of people who do computer support.

Of course alot of people do it where almost all their client are refrences. That how I did it in my previous town.

I charged 50 dollars an hour in my town but was very easy on billing. Didn't charge for hours where I was sitting around while the computer installed or did things that took along time and didn't charge for quick visits where say... their wireless mouse wasn't working and they coudn't reset it themselves but it took me 5-10 minutes to do it.
