Anyone have any suggestions for economical travel to SJU from STX?

Someone, in an earlier posting, had suggested flying from/into SJU. Such tickets are ~$200 cheaper, but it appears that you rally have plan far in advance in order to schedule "puddle jumpers" to complete the journey to the island.

Has anyone experimented with this? Anyone make the STX - SJU trip with some frequency? Alternate suggestions (eg. boat, hot air balloon or submarine)?

Any tutorals Islander? 😉
