I am thinking of purchasing a condo on St croix. I have been talking to an agent about Caribbean view condos. Does anyone have an opinion about safety and where are they located from C'Sted? Thanks for your help Kate

Here is a link to a real estate web page that has a map showing most of the larger condos and their location on St Croix.

http://www.st-croix-real-estate.com/

As for the "safety" of condos located in Christiansted, much of that depends on the preceptions of the person doing the looking.

Many of the condos shown on the above referenced map and located in downtown Christiansted are located in close proximity to a public housing block. Is that an issue for you? You need to visit the neighborhood and decide for yourself.

In Chicago many trendy near north neighborhoods are located near the notorious Cabrini Green housing project. (Much of which is being taken down.) It is possible for public housing and fashionable addresses to exsist in close proximity.

Good luck on your search!

Jim

Jim is right about the safety of condo areas. The ReMax map he suggests is very basic and does not give enough information. If a better map exists I would like to hear about it. ? I don't know much about the Caribbean View condos, but I think they have some problems . In general, you will discover that the most secure condos are on the East End. (Villa Madaleine,Reef,Coakley,Cardin,Candle Reef). They are also ,with the exception of the Reef, the most expensive. You will also find that the condos on the most beautiful beaches are the Least secure and are on the West End near Frederiksted.
There are a string of condos (see map) along the north shore, west of Christiansted that vary in condition, price and security. Your best values can often be found in that group. The Carambola condos are an excellent buy, but away from the sea and carry a hefty monthly cost. Check out the HOA, insurance and other fees. The monthly insurance, condo fees, etc are important to consider. Some are over $15,000 per year, most are less. But still $5000 to $7000 a year.

Talk to more than one realtor... Ask questions...Take your time to make a decision...Do not buy unless you are on island and can compare properties.
good luck....
