Conflict of interest?????

I am a recent graduate of a Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program in the Chicago area. I specialize in the field of vascular sonography. I sent a resume to The Imaging Clinic of STX and one to Gov. Juan Luis Hospital. Of course I did not realize Dr. Galibar was the Head Radiologist at the hospital as well as the sole proprietor of the imaging clinic. Dr. Galibar told the hospital not to hire me...mean while he offered me an one-year unpaid internship with his facility on STX. Basically...If I won't work for one year unpaid, I can't work work at the hospital. Does any body care that this??? "Dr.Galibar" can control people like this????? The hospital wanted to hire me. They pulled the advertisement of an ultrasound tech because Dr. Galibar asked to CEO to do so.

Short answer is yes, they can. They need him more than they need you. I assume as head of the department he has the right to approve hiring. But is it really as simple as that? It's hard to believe that an employer would think someone looking for a paying job could afford to take an unpaid internship instead. Good luck finding something.

Of course they need him. Again, what a conflict of interest. He is not putting the hospitals needs first. He is putting his private clinic first. I will be staying mainland and receiving pay and benefits...a no brainer.

And it runs deeper than that, as there are 3 Dr Galiber's each with their own specialty... frequent referrals to each other of patients, even though the referral was gratuitous and not a medical necessity... plus one, as Cardiac Specialist, was behind the new Cardiac clinic attached to the Hospital... and Father before them was a leading Dr in the community... dynastic.

As much as I despise all the B.S. associated with living there, I miss the island and I miss a lot of the people. I would love to move back some day, but on my terms. I have seen this island devour naive souls.
