I have been viewing this message board for years.............and have been away from it for a few years (had to reregister since I forgot my first password and sign in, also the e mail address I was using). I have been coming to St. Thomas for 10 years, bought a condo in 2004. I was fortunate to buy a home from a friend that had to move in 2009. We have been planning a "move" for a loooong time.

We decided to build the second story on the home (which is where we plan to live) and will pick up the permit when we are there in April. I have built homes in the States for 20+ years and plan on contracting the work myself. However, I have found it difficult to try and line up suppliers and contractors from the states. I know it is difficult enough to build when you are in the area, so I will eventually travel back and forth (condo and house are rented) or find a small studio. Probably more info than you need, but I thought of this message board as I was trying to think of ways to locate construction trades/suppliers on STT. With the many long time viewers on this message board I was hoping someone could suggest any construction trades (block layers, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, etc) or suppliers (windows, doors, lumber) Have an account with Heavy Materials for block and concrete. Is East End Lumber the only supplier on island and do contractors use them for all their lumber needs?
Any leads, suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd be interested to know how long it takes you to "pick up the permit".

We submitted in early Jan and DPNR called and said it was ready last week............were going pick up when we are there in April, but I have someone on island that will pickup tomorrow. I really thought we would be lucky to get it by April/May.
