Convenience Fees for Credit Card Use

Cruz, I use them all the time. I pay my balance every month. There's just something really annoying about convenience fees or what ever they wish to call them. It's as if you're being punished for using your cards. Kinda like when your insurance company raises your rates because you need it.
I had AMEX 20 years ago and I made reservations at a Jersey shore hotel for one week using my card. When I arrived the manager told me I was being surcharged $40.00 for using my card instead of cash. When a friend told me they couldn't do that I called AMEX and they charged back the hotel the 40 bucks and I got an immediate refund.

This is a great discussion! Although we don't see them much here in the VI, convenience fees are starting to show up more often on the mainland. It will only be a matter of time before more merchants in the VI take advantage of the change in the law.

We've walked out of restaurants on STX because the did take cards, we'll walk out if thy charge extra fees. There will be someone else who needs the business more and needs every advantage over the other guy.

So if the price is jacked up to cover the fee how would you ever know? Regardless, it's all the same in the end.

Very well may be but in general I'll be comparison shopping for prices anyway and that's simplest if only the sales price needs to be considered without having to factor in additional fees on a per merchant basis. Of course restaurant comparisons are more subjective anyway for various reasons but can still be ball parked.

I think I'd rather pay a little more for better quality food than pay a fee. It just seems like a scam.

they can be up front and tell you what the fee is or they can raise prices of food. me, i would rather have them be honest and tell me what i am paying for. simple solution-pay with cash or dont go

If anyone charges me an addition fee for using my CC, then I won't buy from them.
