Its a little like a sams or costco but not near the savings and much much smaller. One of its nicknames on island is cost-u-more.

Is Price Smart still in business? You do need a membership to shop there, or at least you used to. I remember a few years ago, the week before Christmas, the parking lot was empty, nobody in the store, and I wanted to buy something (actually several things), and my membership had expired. Well, I didn't want to bother renewing because we were moving to STX, so I offered to pay extra (they used to do that), and they refused to sell the items to me without a membership. Wasn't anything I couldn't get somewhere else, so I declined.

Cost u less can be cost you more but it usually is worth it. Great place to stock up on "snacks" and liquor.

But still find myself having to go to regular grocery store cause who wants to by several loaves of bread at one time.

Has anyone heard anything more about our home depot?? (didn't mean to change subject) but we were on stores...

Price Smart is still there. Membership is $10 I think. When provisioning for our charters we start at Cost U Less, then Price Smart then Plaza Extra and finish at Food Center. Covers all the bases.

Speaking of Cost U Less I haven't gotten a reward check in over a year! I think I'm long over due.

You need to be careful at Cost U Less..........watch expiration dates!
I find them to be a like a Big Lots........old out dated crap.....only at higher prices.
But you need to be careful at all the stores here...........choices are limited & quality is average at best.....I miss Kroger's, Publix , Albertsons & Cosco!!!!

Food center is the KING of expired!
Most of the dates don`t exist, they have been removed!
You wont find that practice @ Cost U Less!
I`ve seldom seen expired goods @ Cost U less(and the dates are Always there, never removed), I see expired goods every time @ Food Center.
I`m SURE it`s illegal to remove expiration dates, but i guess Food Center pays off the right people to look the other way.

Dunn, Expired cottage cheese, milk and other dairy products have entered my cart only to soon be returned to the case......
Other items are just days from expiring........and YES it's very illegal.
I just saw an article, some where a store or vendor got in serious trouble for selling out dated bread via altered ex dates.
Years ago when living in Ga, there were horrible problems with Food Lion and Piggly Wiggly (yes it's true Piggly Wiggly was a real grocery chain........what a name!) selling out dated & repackaged meats.
One just has to be care no matter where you live or shop.

what is a reward check? never heard of it......what am i missing.

and about expiration dates..........I am sure we eat alot of expired stuff down here. I think it just depends on how long it has expired.

My tummy has turned into cast iron since i have lived here. Not much hurts it.

Wonder if we get the "junk" that no one in the states wants? I think we do at k-mart

All the shopping we've done there (STX) in the past year and I've never heard of this program. Are they still offering it to new customers?

I've heard about the islands getting items that don't make it to the states or that are rejected. I believe there was a Pedigree Dog Food issue a few years ago where the dry food was infested with bugs. yuck. I've also seen at Cost U Less the fridges/freezers ebing thawed out and the food going right back in. not good! i believe the authorities were called to inspect after that. Never had a problem at Plaza or Foodtown, but have at Pueblo. Biggest issue down here, i think, are the weevils in the dry foods - pasta, rice, etc...never had a problem returning items that came from the store like that, either.

thanks islandjoan for that wedsite. i checked it out. wonder if it is worth the bother of getting the reward card???

Just like stimulus checks. seeing is believing.

Gosh all this talk about cost u less (more) makes me want to go there after work today and look at expir. dates on items.

as long as no bugs and no green growing on items i dont care to much.

The Cost-U-Less on St. Croix does not participate in the rewards program. That's only St. Thomas. I had a rewards card when I lived on STT, so I have asked on STX several times (thinking I was told wrong the first time), and it's always NO, not on STX.

Speaking of shady practices, when the peanut butter recall happened a few months ago Pueblo at Golden Rock immediately had the Austin Crackers that were recalled front and center on "special" that first day of the recall. Coincidence?

The main thing at Food Center is the cryovac packaged meat. The dairy stuff is easy to check but I KNOW they slap new price/date tags on that stuff that is sealed in those packages like ham & corned beef. I have bought regular steak & hamburger there because I can look at it & tell if it's OK or not.
