Sad to say, every place has crime. Also sad to say, for the victims and their families, most of the crime is gang related.

I know a relative of the most recent male victim on st croix. Pretty much everyone I know who was born here has family members who have been killed.

it all sucks.

@STTsailor

A word to the wise: do not drive your boyfriend's car, and do not buy, or drive, any car that has the word 'Acura' anywhere on the body.

Saw a report that the Fred is now for sale, and also heard the owner left the island.

Sad. Real sad.

@stxdreaming1 I completely agree, the island desperately needs people who have both vision for what can be along with the courage and resources to make positive change.  One positive development is the Shupe’s are buying the Pan Am Pavilion in Christiansted and seem to have a willingness to invest in the waterfront and town.  I only hope that someone can be found to pickup the Fred and continue building on its creative vision, it won’t be good for Frederiksted if another investor can’t be found.

@stxdreaming1

There's more to that "Fred Owner Kidnapping" story that is reported in the mainstream media.

But...you probably know that as its been widely discussed.

@vicanuck

I don't know the 'more to the story" that has been widely discussed....please share!

@islandjoan

I don't want to share that in an open forum, but, there was a reason he was driven around to various bank machines other than robbery. It's not hard to imagine why.

I agree it seemed like the article was somehow not telling the whole story but I guess I’m too dense to put the pieces together myself.  In any case it’s a loss and unfortunate for the community.

@daveb722

That might have been a small part of it but from what I kinda know that WAS NOT the main reason or for that matter even entering into reason why. I know the one that got kidnapped and know the other one that left as well from doing some work there at one point.. VICanuck was right that there was more to that story and was right that it was not right for public post.

I'm amazed at the price they want for the hotel. Given the current economic situation both on the island and globally, I'd be shocked if the place even sells, let alone gets half of what they are asking. I hope to be proven wrong.

@sttanoni hope that's not it, whatever the reason, is it's for sale, he was held at gun point and hopefully someone buys it for fair market value

This is likely the roughest time for the travel industry in my lifetime (almost 64 years) so selling couldn’t come at a more difficult time.  I hope they have the capital to keep the doors open until things improve or a buyer can be found.  It’s a beautiful property that was/is a new landmark for Frederiksted.

It's unfortunate for any reason, hope someone buys it, think they will get less, it's a buyers market right now.
