Is there a high crime rate in stx? I ve read a few threads here now doubting my decision to move there? Any one? Bueller?
Any info would be nice??? I live in mexico now it can't be any where near as bad as here? Cops steal from you here in broad daylight...."your pockets"!!!
Thx.....

Research past threads and you will find lots of info and opinion on this topic. My suggestion is to make a longish pre-move visit, maybe 2-3 weeks, and get a feel for the island. You can then decide if it suits your meeds.

My only advice...don't move to f'dead. I wish that I was given that advice when I moved here.

I have had good dealings and only one bad dealing with cops here, for the most part, I would trust them.

Most of the stealing here comes from the local gov't.

Good luck on your move!!

Banda,
North Dakota has the lowest crime rate in the USA, and it's territories. But you still need sun screen!

OMG Lizard i lived in north dakota for 15 years and you need lots of lotion as well as the sunscreen and you have to learn to drink grog in the winter and drive in blizzards so you can get to the bar

I think the reason that crime seems bad is because the island is quite small, so it is so personal. It happened to a friend of a friend, a cousin or your neighbour, anyway, you will hear about it. Most places things are going on all the time, and you would never know. I very much doubt that Mexico is safer, so I wouldn't let that be a reason not to move to STX.

Police here have not perfected corruption the way the federales have in Mexico. That being said you are on your own here. The police are not really going to do anything to make you safe or if you get robbed, but they are not going to rob you like what you might experience in Mexico. The odds of getting your person or your home robbed are not low. The poverty level is not as bad as the border town I grew up in but it is very far from good.

You need to learn how to protect yourself and your family. Its a very small place so you you keep information about your assests to yourself. You dont tell people when you're going out of town. You have dogs for security and plant throny bushes by low windows...etc... I wouldnt say you use common sense because its not common sense to most.

In mexico they break bottles and glue or cement the pieces on top of block fences, builings etc....really crazy..sometimes you'll see fresh blood on them.... I still like solar powered electric horse fencing shock the P@ss out of them!!!
