Cruising guides

Any yachtsmen (and women) out there? (Perhaps "yachtspersons" would be more PC but doesn't have the same ring...) I have just ordered a copy of "The Cruising Guide to the Virgin Islands: A Complete Guide for Yachtsmen, Divers and Watersports Enthusiasts" to get a better sense of anchorages around the USVI. I was wondering if anyone had any other recommendations for cruising guides. I am particularly interested in finding picturesque, sheltered, uncrowded harbors with easy access to shore, food shopping, etc.

I will not need marina services save for repairs and refueling, as I'll (hopefully) have a completely self-sufficient liveaboard with shower, laundry, etc. I'm planning on mooring out my first year to reduce costs, perhaps forever. I like the privacy of a mooring - the congested nature of a marina could drive me nuts.

Also, I'm planning to bring my Jeep Cherokee, any idea where I could keep it parked that isn't expensive and is relatively safe? Since my home will be floating out in the Caribbean I will not have dedicated parking. I'm planning on being in STT, although I have no particular affinity to one town over another.

I like the "The Cruising Guide to ..." series, and I hear the ones by Don Street are quite good and cover some of the things you like. I've also heard that "A Gentleman's Guide to Passages South" (I think I have it correct) is informative.

I believe from other posts that you've already heard about DPNR licenses for moorings, etc. The area in STT that may appeal to you most is Benner Bay, behind False Entrance, which has a good moored and anchored group of independent sailors.
