When we visited STT in May there was a lot of dead sea grass in the water and piled on the beaches. Does anyone know why that would be and does it happen often?

It's a seasonal phenomenon which this year was more aggressive than usual but has now moved on.

When the sargassum moved on there there was an unrelated and very small belt of grass from elsewhere which hit the shores but it was miniscule in comparison.

Seeing very little of it in the last few weeks - it is a product of the sea that occasionally washes up in the VI as a result of wind and current -

in the water it is not 'dead' and very beneficial - when it washes ashore on deserted beaches it adds quite a bit of nutrients to the shoreline.
