Heading to the states next week. Searched old posts on number of cartons of cigarettes. Is it still 5 cartons? When I go through customs here (STX) do I just open my carry on? Never declared before.

Also, can I download the customs form or have to fill it out at the airport where the print is tiny and lighting less than desirable?

Thanks.

I don't know about how many cartons of cigarettes - I don't smoke. But I'm sure you can find that on the 'net.

You don't have to open your carry-on to go through Customs. You get the form when you get your boarding pass at your airline, fill it out - it has like 10 "yes or no" questions, plus a dollar amount for anything you bought you want to declare - and then you stand in line for one of the Customs agent. Hand them your form and ID - they STRONGLY prefer a Passport, but DL is okay. They will take your form and then you continue on.

Your bags will go through regular TSA security, like in the states. But there is no special Customs declaration. If you're carrying on a box of liquor TSA will open and inspect it and re-pack it for you.
