Dominic

Thank you for the information. I'm planning my pre-move visit in June and hopefully moving mid August.

Thank You,
M Logan

I paid the folowing:

1. For phone, the deposit was $30. Installation (which was actually on the first regular bill was $65)

2. Cable didn't really have a deposit (since you always pay a month in advnace), but installation was something like $35. It is important to note that the place I moved into was pre-wired, so the $35 was the bare minimum charge. If cable serivce doesn't already exist in your new place, the installation charge could be a lot more.

3. Sorry, but I don't recall what, if any, deposit I paid for WAPA.

Its good that you are thinking about the minutae of the various costs. There are a lot of different things that will nickel and dime you to death here.

I found the WAPA receipt.

I paid $100 deposit and $25 to set up the account.

I use WAPA only for electric, not water. I don't know if these would have been higher if they were providing both.

Would have been another deposit for water, they treat them separately, but then again, water is not available everywhere. Did't you have to pay a $50 deposit per cable box?

Thank you for responding.
Knowing the various cost will help with trying to figure out how much I will need to move.
I'm planninng a pre-move visit in June and hopefully moving in September.

Thanks,
M Logan

Ronnie,

No cable box. Got just the basic cable and the service isn't digital, so I didn't need one.

Yo M Logan,

It sounds like you are a planner, like me. My advice would be to always round up when estimating and then add some more.

There are 100 little and not so little things that you may not think about until you get here. For example:

Lots of people (not everyone) drinks bottled water here. Not a huge deal, but it could be $20 a month or more.

If you have a car, insurance is OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. The basic policy with the minimum required liabilty of $10,000 (which of course won't cover you if you total someone's car or injure them--in which case they could sue you, and garner your wages for the rest of your life) is like $700 per year.

Most people end up going out more here, at least for the first few months. Now that is the fun part, but it ain't cheap.

Doing laundry is expensive. There is no naturally occuring fresh water on STT, so anything involving water is expensive.

Gas is $2.10 a gallon.

Typical K-Mart type stuff like soap, deodorant, TP, etc is probably 20% more here. Again, not a huge deal, but it will add a few bucks to your monthly budget.

Have fun and good luck. And remember, rum is cheap!!
