I'm flying to STX on Thursday for a month-long PMV. I'm sure I don't need to tell most of you how excited I am. 🙂

I'm staying in what has been described to me as one of the yellow and white condos in Queens Quarter. My flight lands at 10:30p.m., and I'll be driving a rental car to the condo in the dark. The directions I was given tell me to turn left at the third intersection after the hospital and go up the hill until I see the yellow and white building(s). I'm afraid this might be more difficult than it sounds in the dark, especially since I'll be exhausted from flying all day. I've already pestered my employer with enough questions and don't want to bother them anymore. I'm sure I could stumble around in the dark and eventually run into the right place, but if any of you have any hints like street names, landmarks, approximate distances, etc., that would be very helpful.

Also, since I was last there in February 2008, I'm sure some new restaurants have popped up. I like the casual ones with tables on the beach or a deck over the beach, like Off the Wall and some of the places on the west end. Any new ones with fabulous food?

And finally, my parents are coming to visit for 9 days, and my dad is a huge fan of steel drums. Aside from Bill Bass at Rum Runners at the Buccanneer, are there any other steel drum events you'd recommend?

I read this board religiously and usually try to keep quiet because I don't have much to contribute (yet), but I really appreciate all of the things I've learned from all of you!

try this site.............. gotostcroix.com
They have a calendar with all the events going on each day. It will have steel pan info, yoga, and other things to do & shop while here.
Good Luck

Not a big demand for steel drums from locals so Bill is the man on island. The local schools have a wonderful steel band but schools still out and haven't heard of any events.

The directions you have are good, but it might be hard to find at night, just drive slow after you pass the hospital. If I remember correctly there is a sign for Queens Quarter Condos but its old and faded. They are far back from the road so you won't see them from the road.

Restaurants do not pop up here quickly, they go out of business quickly. The latest ones I can think of are Rowdy Joes and Gangal. The good news is there are many I doubt you've been to. Try all the small local places were many of us eat that are cheap and a bargain. Places you may not have gone to on a pmv. Try Del Sol, Tracys, Spicy Chicken, Harveys, La Rein Chicken Shack, Kims, Villa Morales,etc...

It shows up pretty clearly on GOOGLE EARTH, if you don't have that loaded on your computer just use a google map search. That will give you a much better perspective and actual distances.
