We are thinking about putting Tracvision on our boat. I called Directv and they are clueless. Who installs for Directv on St. Thomas and can you get network channels?

Sail2wind,

While I don't work there anymore AGAIN - well, it's a long story. Call Rodney at 646-456-9532. He does installations for DirecTV. If he can help you ask him for Sibius' number. Sibius is off island until next week but his cell should work. Rod will have the number.

Thanks Pamela

I don't think that Tracvision will work down here. Even with a 6' dish on land we cannot get DirecTV here. They sell DirecTV Latin America down here which is a whole different satellite package. I don't think that DirecTV Latin America is available on TracVision and it would require a 30" dish.

I have the M3DX version of Tracvision DirecTV on my boat and it does not work on STX. I have both TracPhone and TracVision, the TracPhone works ok. The TracVision continually searches for the satellite and never finds it.

Well apparently you can get TracVision with DirecTV Latin America coverage. This requires the 24" or 30" dish. Note this is DirecTV Latin America and not DirecTV. No HD and a limited number of channels. Spanish commercials, etc.

I don't know what DirectTVLA out of Puerto Rico can do for you.

I do know DirectTV out of Trinidad sells to yachts.

Sail2wind, PM me and I will send you the contact.

I may have a receiver here on STJ. I have DirectLA LNB's.

Sail2wind,
According to Tracvision you would need a tracvision model M9 (32 inch dish) to pick up Dishnetwork reliably on your boat. I think DirecTV Latin America might be your best option since the M9 is approx. $12000.00 plus shipping and installation. The programming won't be as good as Dish offers and lots of spanish stuff but you'll be able to get by with a smaller dish/system and get some programming content.

Edited to add the following from the web.
TracVision M9 USThe ultimate in satellite TV reception for vessels 80+ feetBigger just got even better thanks to the new 32" TracVision M9, KVHs powerful HDTV-ready satellite TV system that offers boaters outstanding entertainment and equips 80+ ft. recreational and commercial vessels with a sleek look that matches todays streamlined vessels. Powered by KVHs exclusive new RingFire antenna technology, integrated GPS, automatic, and fully stabilized skew adjustment, the TracVision M9 outperforms any similarly sized antenna on the market in rough seas and farther offshore! Plus, a unique mechanical design allows the 32" antenna to be housed in a dome that is 35% smaller than competing systems so it looks great, too. Whether your vessel is at the dock, at anchor, or cruising on the deep blue sea, TracVision M9 will bring you hundreds of channels of uninterrupted, crystal-clear digital entertainment with CD-quality sound. Highlights: Includes an ultra-high efficiency 32" .

Edit 2: This is straight from Tracvision.
Retail price for the M9 is $14,000. Most the antennas that you'll see on vessels will be M7s or G6s...both are 24 inch and customers will use DIRECTVLA.
