Dish Network / HD channels

So I had a nice convo with a Dish Network rep this week about their offerings for STX.

They say its available - and not the latino version like Directv.

The rep said that some of the HD channels may be missing out of their lineup, but could not give specifics.

Does anyone have Dish Network who can advise?

Thanks!

Blockwatcher, your discussion about Dish Network Rep should be with Paradise Satillite if the above discussion was not with them. The phone for Paradise Satillite is 718-2488. They are THE BEST on island for knowledge & installation of Dish Network. They guy who owns Paradise Satillite reguarly reads the VIMovingCenter threads and I'm sure he will respond to you. I have been a very satisfied customer of Paradise Satillite for several years; upgrading to HD over a year go. We get a lot of HD programming on Americas Top 200 programming with Dish.

Jumbie - Thanks. I could care less about Fox News!

Can you tell me what the recent additions were?

Also - is it possible to get the NY local feed rather than Chicago?

We have DISH. I haven't had good luck with it. It has been repaired 3 times since installed in Oct. It frequently loses signal. DIRECTV now offers english instead of spanish is what I have heard. Our friends are cancelling to get it . There are limited HD channels. Paradise can give you the number to get NY channels. A waiver must be done and you pay additionally for it each month.

Blockwatcher -- Paradise Satillite (Skys TheLimit) posted the listings & and yes I also could care less about that channel being HD or regular --I simply don't like Fox Cable News. The local channels are not through Dish but rather Sobongo (formerly known as All American Direct). Yes NY channels are available here but are not offered in HD. Hence I have Chicago "locals" which offers HD for their NBC, CBS, ABC, & Fox stations.

As for Sandy's comment about not being satisfied with Dish -- you must be the exception.

Renting for two months. Can I upgrade for that time frame and then downgrade? Dish network, seems like basic. No local but some HD.
Skys - Any Input?

Block- That list is pretty concise. I'll try to update it when I have a chance.
Sandy- Impaired? Can you expand on that? Who installed your system? Directv will disappoint! You should call me and see if we can figure out why you're having trouble.
Mist- Do you have Dish now? Upgrade to what? HD is FREE.
Jumbie- Thanks for the plug!

Happy New Year all!

We've had Dish (from Paradise) for almost two months and even had fantastic service during the November monsoon. Zero complaints.

Block- We can get you any receiver you want but I steer clear of a few models for different reasons. We only stock HD receivers and do not stock the 612. What's a stb? Set top box?

Glad to hear the happy responses from you others!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The list below is what you currently get with sats 119 and 110 "Dish500" . I hear we will get a handful of additional channels this year.
With satellite 61.5 you will pick up a few more HD movie channels but that satellite is slowly dying and being shut down.
With an HD receiver you will have lots of PPV and VOD in HD available as well.
I've also heard that local networks will be available soon from Dish. In HD.

Are ABC, NBC, CBS, & Fox easier to get now or do you still have to sign a wavier and wait months?

Easier
Only ABC requires a waiver with the right zip code and that can take 30 days. Remember to make the required call back in 30 days to follow up. Then you'll authorize the charge for that extra channel.
Dish promises local caribbean stations soon though. I was told in HD. Soon come.

Using a Sling adapter on my Dishnetwork 722DVR as I write this. Just hooked it up. Watching the Saints vs Buccs on the TV and the Steelers vs the Browns on my Iphone. From the same receiver! At the same time. In the pouring rain! It's called TV Everywhere. Very Cool!!!
I'll start another thread about it.

I'm looking into getting Direct TV or Dish network.
Is Direct really slanted towards the Latin market(I'm not Latin)?
Does anyone have the channel list for the cheapest package?
What is the installation cost(if any)?

How about Dish networks channel list for the cheapest package?

How does one receive ABC, NBC, CBS, & Fox on either system, what is the cost?
Can you just pick up these networks with Inovative w/o the box(or charges)?
If not, what about antenna reception in STT Frenchmans bay?

At the moment, I'd like to order Direct(one of my good customers sell it)
My tenant is leaning towards Dish, but we don't have a side by side list to compare them!

One more question, I'm told the Dishnetwork box for 2 rooms uses ONE box & TWO remotes, will the second TV/remote work or be able to "see" through concrete walls & floor?

The HD feeds from Chicago were taken off Dish just in time for the NFL Championship and the Super Bowl. I now pay $3.50 a month (per channel ) for a SD feed out of New York. The picture quality on Fox was only so so but then for the Super Bowl they tweaked the signal and the picture quality was excellent.

Innovative has duplicated some of the Networks and placed them on digital channels. This means you will need a digital set top box if you want to watch the networks with decent picture quality. Innovative also scrambled the Fox digital channel just prior to the Super Bowl to make it more difficult for cable pirates to view their signal. Many of Innovative's analog channels have poor picture quality, particularly CBS.
