We are looking for a new provider. We have had Innovative but there are problems with their reception. They don't seem too concerned. We had 2 appointments but they don't show for them. I hear that the Dish service has great reception and more HD channels! Who should we talk too?

You should ask for a channel lineup card showing which channels you will really get in the VI. Not which channels you would get if you lived up in the states. The HD list really wrong.

Rotor is correct. The VI SAT Guy website is maintained by Dish so that the costs will be updated regularly. They indicate many more HD channels on this site that are available in the US. For no additional charge we get 45 channels in HD! With Innovative cable their website lists 15 channels.

At the recent Team Summit more than one Dish exec eluded that they are working on getting HD networks for us. This would be awesome step forward! We'll see.

HD Channels currently available with Dish:
USA
CMDY
LIFE
FOOD
HGTV
E!
A&E

We would more likely get them directly from Dish. Probably not real soon, but, encouraging to hear Dish acknowledge they are missing. With a population of nearly 4 million people on Puerto Rico and that being one of their fastest growing markets you can bet they are addressing it.

I do miss the networks in HD. We also used to get BIO HD, Science HD, Fox News HD, HLN HD and DIY HD. Along with many others. All were eliminated by DISH with no reduction in programming costs.

I believe the "Free" HD requires a two year commitment as well as signing up for Autopay via a credit card. This is the same deal they offer in the states for the same price but with greatly reduced programming.

ASK FOR AN OFFICIAL CHANNEL LINE UP CARD FROM DISH LISTING ALL OF THE CHANNELS THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE. The last time I asked they wouldn't give me one.

The bottom line is that we have less programming available now than we had two years ago and the price has gone up. The only good change is that now you can receive the programming with a single one meter dish and you used to need two 1.2 meter dishes. This is very little consolation to those of us who are long time dish customers and already had two dishes.

Lucky for us the Internet is starting to offer alternative programming sources. Netflix, Hulu and Crackle for movies and USTVNow for the networks.

I have had Dish for two years and have been very satisfied.

They started to include locals in their package here, which is a nice addition, but in the name of full disclosure the network affiliates are not in HD and they don't always include all of the programming you get stateside.

The FOX affiliate from PR did not have American the League Championship or the World Series last fall. Also we often don't get second NFL game on Sunday's in the VI.

It was and still may be possible to sign up for Distant Locals through AAD and thereby get some or all of the networks from either NY or Calif. These are extra cost ala carte channels paid for separately but delivered by Dish in SD. Previously you could get the networks in HD from Chicago.

It is still possible to get the networks via All American Direct. I have them as well as the PR locals.

I have been a Dish customer here in the VI for 14 years. About 5 years ago the networks were available here in HD directly from Dish. Then because of changes in by Congress we had to get them from AAD. Then last January the HD networks were dropped by AAD. The big disappointment came last January also when Dish decommissioned the satellite at 61.5 and replaced it with one which did not cover the Caribbean. For years this satellite had been the source of most of our HD programming.

So in January of last year we lost the networks in HD, we lost two thirds of our other HD channels and Dish raised our programming rates.

Great customer service Dish!

Well, I love my DISH and have also been a longtime customer of several years. DirectTV and Innovative totally stink in comparison!

I'm very happy with DISH on STX and don't miss Innovative (what an oxymoron that is) at all. Well, except maybe those happy times I had to waste away in the waiting room to perform transactions that can easily be done online at other companies.

That reminded me of another reason to avoid CableTV. I often pop into the Innovative offices on STT to pay my 'phone bill and a few times have had glitches with my landline which I need to have taken care of. Every time I'm in there, at least a dozen people are waiting to see a representative and carrying their cable boxes with them for replacement. I thought the first couple of times I was there it was just a strange anomaly but it's a regular occurrence and I've heard several customers tiredly explaining that this is the second or third receiver they've had problems with ... I should add that I've really been satisfied with my telephone and internet service through Innovative but wouldn't touch their cable package with a ten foot barge pole.

I have found that Innovative is totally worthless. Cellphone and Magicjack for phone and Broad Band VI for Internet works best. After a hurricane a few years ago my Innovative Internet and telephone went out for four months. I realized that I could live without Innovate entirely.

I moved to STX in 1998. Hooked up with Innovative cable. After 90 days I realized that Innovative was the worst excuse for cable ever. And I knew the president of St Croix Cable. The infrastructure was a disaster. I switched to Dish in 1998. The problem is that over the past 5 years Dish's commitment to the Caribbean has gotten worse not better. We had more HD programming two years ago than we do now. But the price has gone up.

I've been totally satisfied with my DISH sevice. The odd time that I have experienced a problem, our DISH guy Alan was right on top of it.

There is no better DISH service provider on STX than Paradise Satalite.
