Hello all,

I will be arriving at the end of this month doing my PMV and staying for a couple of months. I was wondering if anyone could refer me to where to get my diver certification. I have no experience whatsoever and I know there are different levels. I have looked online at different places that offer but I was wondering where/if anyone has gotten it done and could recommend someone and the average price? I appreciate the help.

Thanks,
Sarge

Any of the dive shops can accommodate you. The instructor is the key to a good certification experience, so I would recommend visiting the shops that are convenient to where you'll be staying and chat with the instructors to establish a rapport with them.

Assuming you will be on STT, try Coki Dive shop. I got certified there in 2005. It took about a week and I think it was less than $250 at the time with the "local" rate.

Thanks! Yeah, I apologize that I should have put what island I was going to be on. I will be staying on STT. Thanks again for the info.

I recommend Red Hook Dive Center, on STT, but got my certification on STJ back in 1984.

USVI Tourism has a fantastic dive package promotion. Anna, of AquaMarine Dive Center on Limetree Beach told me about it. Here's a link:

http://www.usvigetaway.com/dive/

I received it for my first vacation week on St. Thomas and my second week on St. Croix. Great coupons to use with a dive shop, restaurants, and other activities.

If you check out the usvi tourism site, you'll find a few promotions. I know when planning next year's vacation I'll definitely look at what tourism is offering.
