Good Morning, What do they all look for in this check?

Police Records Check
Police Department
Telephone: STT (340) 774-2211 / STX (340) 778-2211
Website: http://www.vipd.gov.vi/main/main.aspx
All applicants must submit to a Background Check from the Police Department. This review will be conducted on applicant's behalf by the DLCA Division of Licensing upon submission of application for new business license or change of principal(s).

what would make hem turn down your application?
and is the check just on the Islands or nation wide of all of the united states?
Just wondering??
any and all advise/help would be great!
Thanks Scott

They usually do just a local check, though some think they should expand it.

I think they just want to make sure you've paid your debt to society before they issue the license. I think all fines have to be paid up. The VI is a very forgiving place, so unless someone is a serial child molester, they'll probably pass the police check.

I used an "expediter" for my business license and it's renewals, and that was well worth every little dollar!

Someone who knows all the ropes and, for a fee, gets all your paperwork processed through the right channels, thereby saving you a lot of time and legwork.

I do my car stuff through her service and they do a great job. For business I used LeBron and Associates at 776-4678.

Don't feed the beast!

The owner of a Jeep I bought on STT proudly declared that it hadn't been inspected in 15 years. She simply paid her "expeditor" who'd come back with an inspection sticker. The Jeep never left her driveway.

That has nothing to do with DCLA and business licenses which are not a "walk-through" by any stretch either with or without an expediter.

It has everything to do with "expeditors" - regardless of what they are expediting.

So you bought an uninspected vehicle? The Dept of Motor Bureau has already been exposed for their corruption - didn't somebody go to jail, or something ,over that or a similar issue? So hard to keep track of all known the corruption!

No, don't feed the beast. Instead, spend months banging your head into a concrete wall which may or may not result in getting what you need _ if your business is not already jeopardized because you're spending every waking hour trying to deal with a system which you cannot navigate.

See how that works out for you.

Yup. You're right jbati. Let's all bitch about the corruption while we contribute to it. Brilliant.

The OP specifically asked about business licenses and was given pertinent information of professionals who can make the process easier. Their practices are no more illegal than if you use the services of a CPA to prepare your income tax returns.

Correct. Some of the "expeditors" are licensed professionals. Many are not.

You introduced "expeditors" for "car stuff" into the conversation. I responded. I've been introduced to quite a few "expeditors" in my years here. Most of them start the conversation with, "I know a guy..." Palms in all branches of government get greased here. You know this to be true, don't you?
