My husband and I are considering moving to the VIs. Where do we find out about Docks/Slips For Sale? And/or where do you recommend liveaboards rent docks/slips?

Michelle,

You didn't mention which island. STT has Sapphire Beach "Dockominiums". They are the only ones here. STJ has none and I don't know about STX but have never heard of them.

Depending on how deep your pockets are - marinas to live aboard (beginning at the most expensive) are Crown Bay Marina, American Yacht Harbor, Compass Point (Boaters Haven), Independent Boatyard, Lavida Marina and, next year, Vessup Point.

A mooring is an inexpensive option. $5 per foot of boat/per year for the permit plus whatever the ground tackle costs to purchase and install.

Hope this helps.

Pamela,

Just curious to compare rates with our local rates. When you say most expensive to least expensive, can you give me a range? Say I had a 30-35 foot sailboat, how much to dock?

You would have to contact the marinas - I don't have the $$$ amounts per foot. Sorry.

John -
I can tell you that it costs $13/ft at La Vida, but I think there is a waiting list.

Thanks, Pam and Max. Sounds expensive...ah, the price folks pay to live in paradise....and worth every penny!
