Doesn't large amounts of the dust help stunt hurricane formation?

Yes, that's about the only the saving grace about the dust is that it hinders the formation of tropical storms and hurricanes.
I just clean windows a lot more often and carry visine.

Mike, you might luck out when you're here as the Sahara Dust isn't constant.
It comes and goes according to weather patterns coming off Africa.

When are you going to be on island?
