Education to frustration to entertainment

Sooo, I was reading through some topics on the forum today and came to a realization...

Before I moved here I came to this board to try and get educated on what to expect and places I needed to know and lots of other things.....Sometimes the forum accomplished educating me...other times....

During and not long after moving here I came here and was utterly frustrated and dismayed and how topics veered way off course into personal attacks. I realized the forum was probably only helpful to a select few that didn't get burned for asking simple questions while most people probably never posted or stopped posting because of the childish type atmosphere in so many topics.....

Now, after being on STX for over a year, I come back to be entertained by all the name-calling, personal attacks and "advice" that people give to one another. I haven't watched one in many years but it's like those reality shows such as Big Brother or Survivor. There are allegiances among regular posters but every now and then someone will turn on an allegiance for a period of time and risk getting "thrown off the island"...LOL

I'm not trying to belittle or say the forum isn't helpful at all but there seem to be very few topics that don't involve some sort of "butt-hurt" or name-calling or arguments over the simplest of things.

To sum things up....Keep on keepin' on because it makes me laugh whenever I do stop by to see what's going on here. 😀 .....although I'm no longer needing advice for what to expect or anything so I'm guessing a lot of the forum creepers and new folks are in a similar situation that I was in before.

I come here to try to answer questions from people considering a move here and those that are already here.

Accurate assessment. I also read for entertainment value alone. And I don't participate for the same reasons.

You just proved TommySTX's point with your needless comment.
Way to go.

Yup. Plus I feel left out of the mix.

If that's a bad thing and if you're implying that I'm one of an apparently select few who are irritating and contribute nothing substantial then the obvious solution is to disregard my posts and opinions. On the other hand, 10+ years is a long time to have been "contributing" (seemingly debatable) so in order to help you out and relieve the angst I'm more than happy to bow out. 😀

I find lots of useful stuff here. My first 'hut', my first car, etc….

I also enjoy reading (and, yes, sometimes contributing) the back and forth amongst the gang. The newbies here need to adapt, contribute or move on. Maybe join one of the other millions of comment blogs out there. :}

I also would imagine there is a lot of private messaging for advice going on too so as not to get attacked or embarrassed. All in all this is a good forum. A good general rule is never to offer criticism from behind a computer screen you wouldn't offer in person.

I learn a lot from this forum, but I too also find it very entertaining. I usually get a laugh or two out of it every morning. Sometimes from the 'newbies' and sometimes from the banter between regular contributors.

So I saw Map out drinking iced coors light and banana rum shots at cheeseburgers around 3 am...

when he arrived his staff tripped the occupancy of the bar.

(am I doing this right?)

Tommy- If you have been living there for a year only you must have a lot to contribute. Your experiences of the move are recent and therefore relevant as far as cost goes etc and while you are new enough for that, you have been there long enough to have some real advice on how the new life is going. I love this forum. Crazy as it is sometimes. I have seen much crazier forums!
