Hi all!!! My name is Ian Throop. I am from Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. I am going to be graduating this spring in education. I will have teaching certificates (from Michigan) in cognitive impairment/mental retardation, emotional impairment/behavior disorder, and in elementary education. My girlfriend and I am extremely interested in teaching in the Virgin Islands. If anyone can help, I am looking for any information on teaching there, employment opportunities, living there, etc.

Thanks for your time.

God Bless,
Ian Throop

Ian, this board is a great resource for you, keep reading. There are special challenges to teaching here, low salary included but not that alone. That said, teaching here is just as rewarding as teaching anywhere else, maybe more so, and teachers are rarely in it for the money or ignorant of the inevitable challenges. There are generally many teaching positions available, so start thinking about which island and learning more about life in the VI's.
