Well, Edward is leaving STX today:-(
He is not leaving because of anything that has disillusioned him about the island, he loves it here!
He is not leaving because of the way service is so slow.
He is not leaving because of high cost of living.
He is not leaving because of corruption, yes he knows it's here.
He is not leaving because he misses the four seasons, he loves the weather.
He is not leaving because of the bad roads.
He is not leaving because of health reasons, thank God, or lower health care.
He is not leaving because of family.
Why is he leaving?
He is one of the unique people who goes where he is needed the most!
He is returning to Georgia (think near Russia) to help expand the university that he helped found when he was in the peace corp and later. The countrys' president personally asked him to come back and he could not refuse!
Edward is one of the most interesting people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I got to know him because of this message board and for that I am greatful!
He is going to be missed by those who got to know him, and for those of you that didn't you will never truly know what you missed!
Good Bye and Good Luck Edward

Edward has become our friend---enjoying a few Sunday get togethers with us at our place.

Terry is 100% correct----Edward is leaving to complete unfinsihed business in Georgia---they called, and he is answering the call, just like he did serving his country in the military and the peace corp. Edward comes from a unique mold, as much as he didn't want to leave and loved St Croix, he could not say no , a decision he made knowing the scarifices; uprooting from St Croix.

God Speed Edward---our paths will cross again , and God willing, our paths crossing again will be in paradise , St. Croix USVI.

I thought he wasn't leaving until June! Plans change. I'd hoped to have the chance to say Goodbye before he left.

Happy travels, Edward!

Bittersweet Goodbyes:

Edward's honorable service to the U.S. through twenty years in the U.S. Army (retiring as Colonel), the Peace Corp for seven years, years of dedication at the University of Georgia (Eastern Europe) are profound as are his travels throughout the world; he has left in all of these places - that he has touched - a distinguished honor, a dignity, a respect, a truth, and a trust for all to learn from and embrace.

Edward is deserving of the highest of accolades as he now returns to Georgia to fulfill another important mission in his life. His accomplishments throughout his years are incomprehensible to fully absorb and surely would require two lifetimes for us other mortals to achieve; yet, he is not finished in his unselfish dedication to the "call of duty." Remarkable is an understatement in describing this truly unique individual. I can only hope he knows this.

With a sadness we bid goodbye to you, Edward;
With joy, Tbilisi, Georgia welcomes you home with open arms;
With hope, St. Croix awaits your return one day to grace her beautiful island once more with your presence, friend.

Take with you our very best wishes,

Swan
