This is a great board ya'll are very generous and honest with information. I've lived all over the country and never seen a group as "honest, warning & welcoming" as ya'll.

So what's the deal with the new casino on STC? How's the crime
rate?

Permanently relocating in late September early October, have some contacts through aviation however any pointers welcome. Would like to arrive with job in hand.

Thanks, Phoenix

We discuss crime rate on the islands on this board alot, I think because some people exaggerate the problems and it gets people new to the islands worried. I know I was worried about it when we were thinking about visiting St. Croix last year. But, on arriving and getting out and about the island we pleasantly discovered that it was just like being at home. Don't go to isolated places late at night, just use common sense. We're in our early 50's and we explored places all over the island freely and had such a good time that we couldn't wait a whole year to go back and revisited this past February again!

And if my husband walked in the room right now with plane tickets and a smile... I could be packed in 30 minutes!

Hello Phoenix,

Are you refering to Divi Carina Bay, the existing casino, or do you mean casino deals/plans that are in 'the works'?

STC is actually STX ;). Then STT and STJ.

The crime situation; take a look for breif info. at https://www.vimovingcenter.com/island_living/crime.php

Also visit: http://www.vipd.gov.vi/ and click on Crime Statistics in their navigation.

Islander,

Thanks again for clarifying something for me, I appreciate it!

I was referring to the casino plans or deal "in the works".

Thanks for the links as well. I'll check them out.

Your replies are very kind and appreciated.

Thanks,
Phoenix

Actually, I believe there have been talks about developing two new casinos on STX. One casino/resort is proposed for the Great Pond area and I have read of another larger convention center that would include a casino is under discussion for the area just north of Fredericksted.

I haven't heard or read much on either in the last several months -- but down here, that worries me a bit as there seems to be a lot of closed door meetings and secret agreements pulled off by the government, private entities like the "proprietors" of the STT Carnival, and on and on and on. I was devastated that thanks to a technicality, the developers of the Great Pond project were able to nullify a determination that building at Great Pond would have too many detrimental effects on the environment and were allowed to go forward with the permitting process.

I've lost track of the official project status since then, but have a suspiscion that something is still moving forward because the Divi Casino has made so many upgrades, such as adding a sports book and quite a few new table games, over the last few months.

I am really hoping that the Great Pond project will not be allowed to go through on that location. I think that is one of the most special places on STX and would hate to see the view of the water and open wetland-type fields as you head west along the south shore replaced with a tribute to Las Vegas.
