Hello there! I just wrote you a rather lengthy response, but it seemed to have disappeared into cyberspace.

A shortened version is that Innovative is the only home phone service, rather a monopoly. They are also tied in to cable, cellular services and the Internet (local ISP).

If you do a search on Innovative and USVI you will find a lot about the history, current technologies and contact numbers. As there is a significant delay in their service department (2-4 weeks), if you have installation and repair skills, it may be a foot in the door as I imagine they would want to cut that time down if possible (just my thinking). As we are coming into a 'higher winds' time of year, there are lots of times when service will go out, and someone needs to fix it.

I imagine, being a larger employer, they would offer a full compensatory package.

If there are no openings, Cingular is (or seems to be) the most popular cellular service. With them, I would imagine you could start with a local number for them, and get transfered 50 times until you hit the islands to get needed information.

I hope this is helpful, and please note that this is not a slurr on Innovative. I am quite grateful that they invested to create an integrated system, and as a person with a disability, they are very responsive to my need to always have a phone for emergency access for medical care.

Best wishes to you,

Dan G.

There are many people who come to STX each year as contractors working on specific projects in the telecomm field. Innovative can't always get the professionals they need for such projects on-island and have to sub out major projects to firms that bring in workers.

Another company to send an inquiry to would be Hovensa, the oil refinery. Their complex is a city in itself and they have their own internal communications network. They probably have people on staff to keep it operational.

Many people assume that if you aren't an "oil worker" that they wouldn't be needed by Hovensa... but they do need workers in many disciplines other than the petrochemical side of the operation. It never hurts to ask them!
