My wife and I are headed for St Thomas on July 20th. She will be working at the hospital as a nurse. I am seeking employment. My back ground is in the food service/hotel business. My last two places of employment were the Sheraton hotel In Anchorage Alaska as a bar captain, and then at the Hilton as a banquet captain. I have many years experience as bartender, cook, or supervisor. I am really interested in finding work that would involve being around sailboats, charter boats or at a marina. my wife and I are planning on buying a sailboat next summer, and I want to gain as much experience as I can.

byrd: The charter boat industry is a little slow in the summer. Many of the crewed charter boats head south until November. There are the big marlin boats, but they usually already have crew, although you sure could check by walking down the dock at American Yacht Harbor. Once you are on island, you will find cooking jobs by word of mouth. You will need a food handler's card, so search through the archives here on how to obtain. Some of the hotels will be closed for part of the summer- eg. the Ritz and Morningstar, but you can check for work there too. Your area really requires networking and face-to-face interviews. Good luck!
