This is great news. Is the fair a littl more expensive than the the old ferry service?

I must confess to being rather surprised but check this out.

Seems that the stateside ferry whose owners/operators said they wouldn't return here for another season have changed their minds all of a sudden. Offering pretty much comparable rates with the newer venture (kid) on the block, how come this sudden turnaround and decision to come back here when from all reports they were GONE!

STT Resident,

I too thought it was odd. The former ferry folks claim they'll only offer the service for a week and I wonder how that can be cost-effective if they have to bring the boat from the states. Perhaps they provide ferry service elsewhere in the Caribbean and are just pulling a boat for the week to run between St. Thomas and St. Croix.

Having a suspicious mind I wonder if it is another one of those deals like the Governor signed with American Eagle to provide service between STT & STX or the subsidy they gave the tour operator that brought the direct flights in from Copenhagen.

According to the Daily News, the ferry company that was here last year is using a boat currently making runs in Puerto Rico, so I assume it isn't that big of a deal to bring it over to the territory.

Yes, it is currently in use in PR and they are trying to assure that people from St Thomas can get to the Ag fair that weekend. There is no guarantee that the new one will be up and running by then.

Does anyone know how to get a car from St Thomas or St. John to St. Croix?

there are some cargo barges that operate between STT and STX that can take cars

As well as some regular cargo boats. Check with the Boynes Transportation System in St John, occasionally they move some trailers and cars to STX. They took someone over earlier this year for under $200. She was allowed to ride with the car complete with dogs!
