Fastest broadband service?

The problem generally is consistency of connection. I've spoken with BBVI about it many times, and the fluctuation is what's the issue. Skype will be working fine for a while, then the signal fluctuates, and the call either drops or is unintelligible.

Same thing happens when watching streaming video. We'll be chugging along nicely, then the picture freezes or gets very pixelated. Sometimes it rights itself, other times, we have to monkey with it to get it started again.

That's great news, thank you. And once again, I do need to commend BBVI on their customer service. They've always been super prompt and friendly in addressing any issues I've called them about.

Beeski,

Somewhat on topic - has there been any change in availability of BBVI on the STT north side (like in Mahogani run etc, that is facing north)?

We added an access point out on the Peterborg peninsula around 9 months ago that faces Mahogany Run. Can you see Peterborg from your place?

Hull Bay has had service for 2 years. Can you see Inner Brass from your place?

I can practically spit on Inner Brass from my balcony, the only reason I don't have BBVI is because my other half got sucked into the Innovative package deal and service is terrible. I have a white outdoor antenna mounted on the railing that I thought was a previous Choice installation but maybe it wasn't. I'm really thinking I'm going to just take the hit with the early termination fee and go BBVI, I can do a lot of my job functions in my pjs if my connection wasn't so terrible.

You might benefit from having both services - nice to have a backup in the VI for many reasons.

I am kinda place-shopping, want to make sure whatever it is - would have access to BBVI.
Where on the peninsula is the AP? I don't think most of the north side Mahogany run would be able to see it, the buildings face slightly north-east.

It would be real nice if there was an AP on the Lollik island or Thattch Cay or some such, as they are in direct view of either of those places.

The best and easiest way to determine if you can get service from BBVI is to use a WiFi scanning application on your smart phone or other mobile device.

The most complete free application I have found that runs on my Kindle Fire is Amped WiFi analytics.

Take your device outside (You must be outside since that is where your radio from BBVI will be.) and see what WiFi networks that you pickup. On STX all of BBVI's access points have an SSID that starts with BroadbandVI. If you don't pickup anything at ground level try higher up and on your roof if possible. I have even seen BBVI's radios mounted on 30' poles.

To further prove to yourself that service is available try and connect to the BBVI access point with the strongest signal using your mobile device. You should be able to connect ( BBVI's signal is not encrypted ) and be taken to a BBVI sign up screen. If you can do this with the wimpy WiFi radio in your mobile device then you should have no problem with BBVI's service after they mount a more robust radio on your home with a directional antenna.

PS. On the infrequent occasions when I loose my internet service I use this method to make sure BBVI's access point is on air before I begin trouble shooting network problems.

Jim Dandy, that used to be the case, but we've never had 2.4Ghz on STT/STJ....and we're phasing it out on STX.

That you could do a wifi scan to determine if you can get BBVI service. We now cover 95% of the residents in the VI....with more to come.
