Hi Folks:

Im kicking around a pair of ideas to establish a business on St John / St Thomas
One is probably quite unique to the island(s) the other probably not so.

Best Friend Dog Walkers
$15 for a 15 minute walk and fill their dish with food could be once or twice a day.

Buy a Party Boat ship it to Puerto Rico and do 1/2 day and full day snorkel tours.

Out of curiousity which one do you think will be a hit?

Thanks
Jay

Few could afford your dog walking service, and the party boat has been tried many times.

Thats really high for dog walking or care here. People would be falling over themselves to do dog walking for that wage. Remember wages are low here so frivolous things like dog walking are not in high demand. Theres usually a moderate demand for dog watching while people are on vacation, but people are wary about having others in their home here and having others know what they have. So the reputation you develop will be extremely important.

Thank You for the feedback.
I imagine the competition would be tough for the snorkel tours.
Amazingly dog walking and daycare for dogs is huge particularly in the Western US.
I suppose a recylced water auto car wash would be more profitable on each island?
A friend of mine is Jamaican and he said thats what he'd do when he retires in a few years. in Negril.......

In Jamaica they have plenty of fresh water - not so here - have you been here? Walking a dog can be an adventure - hilly, other dogs running free, and a lot of driving time between clients - the pricing has already been mentioned.
Any party boat carrying more than 6 passengers would have to be a USCG Inspected Vessel and the operator would need a USCG license - initial cost, maintenance, dockage and commissions are all part of the expenses.
Good ideas and not to say they wouldn't be successful so come down and try them but bring plenty of capital to tide you over for a while to establish a reputation for hard work and honesty.

Dear Best: You know, lots of people come up with ideas that work somewhere and feel they should translate here. As Zero said, come on down and try. "Recycled water car wash"? Heck, that is what they do in the public parking lots with a bucket of old water. Why would you ship a party boat to Puerto Rico?

If you come here, live and work, observe...you could come up with many ideas.

15 dollar for dog walk is high when you can get a house sitter for around 20.00 a day. That is with food, pool and booze included.
