Staying on STT but if we visit Cruz Bay just for the day, should we consider taking a car? Once off the ferry, are beaches close by, or is a taxi needed? Thanks!

This board is for questions about relocating to the USVI. Try posting your questions about a day trip to STJ and grocery stores near the resort where you'll be staying to the Vacation Message Board. I wouldn't bother taking a car just for the day. Easy to get to beaches on STJ.

It really depends on what you want to do. If we just wanted to go to one beach for the day, we'd take the passenger ferry over, then take a taxi to Trunk Bay, Hawksnest, etc. The cost of taxis can add up in a hurry if you want to go to a lot of different places.
If you take your car over for the day, be sure it is a four weel drive...or at least doesn't have a low clearance. We took our low clearance car over once, and it was SCARY!
Then one day we wanted to explore the island, so we went over on the passenger ferry, rented a jeep at one of the car rentals on STJ and had lots of fun driving all over. We really enjoyed going over to Coral Bay and checking out their shops and beaches (like Salt Pond).
So, like I said, it depends on what you want to do.
