When a clerk or cashier wags a finger at you what does it mean?

Hello Bobbyrick - East Ender had brought up this subject but I had commented that if joining a line and the teller wags a finger it means the line is closed. East Ender surely will answer though.

The gesture can mean "no", and in the context of the cashier story, it meant "No, my line is closed."

Thanks for the info, when I see a finger in the air I usually take offense. Now I know!

Hello Bobbyrick,

The wagging finger for no is the INDEX finger sort of with a closed hand 🙂 LOL And if they stick the index finger up with a some what open hand and a head nod at the same time it means hello, hey, whats up - usually between buddies or folks that know each other - often its just the head nod though and the response is usually a head nod back.
