I'm looking into moving to St. John in the next year, and I can't seem to find anything about the firearm laws there. Does anyone have any information regarding it or outside sources of info like govt. sites and what not?

Thanks!

To bring a gun to the VI you must obtain a permit. If you arrive with a gun and don't have a permit you are supposed to contact the VI police to store it for you within 24 hours until you get one.
The permit requires a gun safety course, a locked storage area, 3 passport type photos, a police record check. The application costs $5 and is available at the police station. For a concealed carry permit there are other requirements. The process can take up to three months. A new law is being discussed that states you may only posses amo that fits your weapon.
It's not easy but with perseverance it can be done. You need a permit for each gun. Possession without a permit is a 5 year mandatory sentence.

You can have a Federally licensed firearms dealer in the states send your weapon(s) to a licensed dealer down here. They will store it for you until you get your permit. Sorry but I don't know who on STT or STJ you can send it to.

Unauthorized possession of ammunition is a serious crime here. You cannot legally posses ammo unless you can legally posses a firearm.

Do not under any circumstance think about hiding a weapon or ammunition among any belongings you are shipping down.
