I just received my copy of the settler's handbook, it's a great source of info. I'm planning a trip at the end of May and can't find any direct flights from Ft. Lauterdale to STX. I am starting from Ventura Ca. Does anyone have an airline they've used? I'm continuing my trip to D.C. after STX.
Thanks, Dave

Going from the west coast to to St Croix can often be difficult. American Airplines offers the most choices and consistent service.

From southern California you can connect through DFW (dallas) to (San Juan) SJU and then American Eagle to St Croix

You can also connect from LAX to (Miami) MIA and a once a day flight to St Croix.

FLL (ft Lauderdale) can connect to St Croix through San Juan

Until recently the only direct (non stop) flight from the mainland was the American Airlines flight. That is American #695 .

I think some other airline, (I think Delta) was announcing a direct St Croix flight. I do not know the details of that possibility.

There are three nonstops to St. Croix from the mainland
1. The daily flight from Miami on American
2. The weekly flight from Charlotte on US Airways
3. The twice-weekly flight from Atlanta on Delta (after March)

From Ft. Lauderdale, I would suggest either checking American via SJU. Or you can check Spirit Airlines (www.spiritair.com) which has good fares between FLL and SJU. Then you can check American Airlines, Cape Air, Caribbean Sun, or Seaborne Airlines for a separate ticket from SJU to STX, because you cannot book Spirit AIrlines tickets combined with other airlines (i think).

Or you could forget about leaving from FLL, and just take the direct flight to STX from MIA, since MIA is so close to FLL.

Stxer, Thank you for the info. I spent 2.5 hrs. researching flights from California. I am going to cancel the week layover in D.C. It's cheaper to fly back at a later date than try to fit it in with the trip to STX.
