Such a fun event that I look forward to every year! It's much more than food, though, with so many activities for everyone - jump rope, chess, dancing, auto show, educational exhibits, and so much more. Plus, the beach is just up the road!

I limited this slideshow to the oh-so-delicious dishes cooked and donated by people in the community (and Bolongo Bay Resort). Funds go to scholarships for University of the Virgin Islands students.

Nice photos and another great forum for sharing on that tripadvisor site. Seems you've got yourself a wonderful hobby. It helps with so many photogenic subjects, no?

Thanks, Gerie. Their apps/tools make it so easy to do some interesting projects with your photos. What I like about TripWow is that the slideshow doesn't have to reside on their site. You can download it to a DVD or other devices or to your hard drive and still play it as it was created.

But, I'm already bored with their music selections after just two slideshows, so I may have to buy some royalty-free music if I continue to use that app.

The Orchid Show is Saturday, but last time I went, they weren't allowing people to take pictures. Still, it's always a beautiful event.

One of my dear friends who used to live here didn't like my photos of the Afternoon on the Green. She thinks I need recipes or explanations of the food culture in the VI to make it more appealing. She said the food photos didn't look appetizing.

She's got a point, and when I first got here, I was turned off with the aluminum foil protected food at the food sales and fairs. Even now, it's a little frustrating to not be able to see the food because of the aluminum foil. I once took a travel writer to a food sale at Ft Christian parking lot (fundraiser for Gov deJongh when he was first running), and she was turned off by the food displays so I took her to an air-conditioned restaurant with a tourist-friendly, Caribbean-inspired menu.

So how do we make our food fairs more tourist-friendly? I always ask to see the food before making the commitment to buy, but I think the food presentation is a bit intimidating/unappetizing to some tourists.

Your thoughts?
