From Oklahoma to St Thomas?

Hi,
I know I'm not the first person to visit the USVI then want to move there....I truly love St. Thomas. I do have a great business idea that I know would work but it revolves around the cruise industry and I was hoping someone could tell me their true opinions. First question is...does "Island fever" really exist? Begin from the central part of the USA would living on an island make me go crazy? As much as I love all things Caribbean I don't think this would affect me but I'd like some thoughts from someone that has done this.

Second question....what is the financial climate like in St. Thomas and is starting a new business there really difficult? My business idea is "medical" related and would be focused on people visiting St. Thomas/St Croix. I also have a plan to offer medical serivces to local residents at a dramatically reduced rate, maybe even free, depending on taxe rates, business levels...etc.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts you may have.

Yoy can fall in love with any place you come to. But there is a difference between being a tourest and making a living. Things are bad all over nut starting a new business can be the answer, or you might fail. So if you want to start a new business keep your expenses low, have about a years savings that you can rely on and give it a try. But be ready to pull out if things are going bad.

folliw your dreams, you live only once

There are plenty of Okies here already!:P

Some people get island fever the moment they get off the plane and others, not in 20 years. I think it has more to do with your satisfaction level with life. If someone needs toys and entertainment, I feel that red flags go up.

For your business idea, I would come down for a couple of weeks and talk to people in the industry face-to-face. You might also look at the EDA website: http://www.usvieda.org/

Good luck!
