Gardening? plants that grow easily here?

I am relocating to St. Thomas at the end of July. Does anyone have any suggestions about stores that may carry some gardening equipment, such as potting soil or small planters? Are there any vegetable or herbs that grow especially well on St. Thomas? I am used to a colder and shorter growing season and would love some tips!

HI!

There are several garden centers on STT, as well as Home Depot. I live on STJ and order seeds from Burpee (you cannot send plants here through the mail). I use Earth boxes (for the first time) and they are doing really well. Getting a ton of veggies and they conserve water. Google them...worth the investment if you are looking to grow veggies.
I have found I can grow most anything year round, but the best time for growing seems to be October through May. I garden year round and have good luck, but I am on a very good area for gardening on STJ.
Welcome to the islands. It is very cool to be able to grow tomatoes in January!

Thanks for the info! Glad to hear there are some garden centers. I'm looking forward to the long growing season, especially growing tomatoes! I looked into the Earth boxes and they look like a pretty solid investment - especially for water conservation, which I know can be tricky on island. I'm excited for this gardening adventure =)
