For those that are new down here and are not certain of their way around. I brought my GPS down for the heck of it to see if it might work. I have no added software to it at all just stock. It has all of the roads and points of interest listed for every island in the caribbean. Such as STT,STJ, water island, jamaica, puerto rico, cuba etc.

I am not speaking for other brands just Garmin. So if you have one and you are moving bring it with you. Just be smart and DONT LEAVE THEM IN YOUR CAR! 😉

I found much the same when I moved here (STX) about 6 months ago and brought a Garmin Nuvi 760 with me. I showed it to my friend who is even newer than I am and he bought one to use as well. Our wives followed us down here a couple of months behind us and they both found the units to be of great use particularly since we had manually entered notable points of interest in the units.

I find all major and most minor roads are mapped. Of all the restaurants, shopping centers, gas stations, etc. I find that about 75-80% are mapped by default. I've manually entered several places that aren't in the base 2009 maps.

FYI - the nice folks at Radio Shack on STX didn't know (and still don't seem to believe) that STX is mapped. Of course there's no reason they should no this since they're typically native to the island and have ZERO reason to use a navigation unit.
