I am coming down in a few weeks for the upcoming season. I see there are a few golf courses but they are all part of resorts. Are they accessible to someone not staying at the resorts? How much are the green fees? What I'm saying is it worth it to bring my clubs down with me?

The golf courses are accessible to those not staying at the resorts. The greens fees vary...call or e-mail for the rates. My husband played Carambola recently...they did charge extra for me to just ride in the cart with him even though I wasn't playing. But he loved the course. Bring your clubs. You'll likely be happy you did.

There are three golf courses on St Croix. The Carambola ( previously the Fountain Valley)is on the west end of the island. This is a Robert Trent Jones course, that is among the best in the Caribbean. Last time I looked the green fees were about $100, which is very competitive for resort courses. It is an inland (no ocean view) course, but provides interesting play.

The Buccaneer course is east of Christiansted. It has some great ocean views. The front is very hilly and requires some long water carries.. The back is shorter, but finishes with two long challeging holes. The green fees use to be slightly less than Carambola.

The third course is the 9 hole Reef course. It is way far east by the Reef Condos. It would be an ideal fun short course if it wasn't for the "Rocky Top" fairways that can destroy your irons or wooods. It has great ocean views and the green fees are moderate +- $20.

St Croix has the best (ok ,almost the only) golf in the Virgin Islands. St Thomas' Mahogany Run is a nice course, but not up to the standards of the Carambola course.

Happy golfing

To add one note. At the Buccaneer, only the golfers can be on the course. Anyone riding in the cart must also have a set of clubs -- I don't know why.

The Buccaneer rents clubs. I think the club rental fee is about $25.

Some Resort Guests and Non Resort Guests, wouldn't or couldn't use the services of child care, so they would pack up the little ones with balls, bats, kites etc and say "Kids were going to the park today". So management sensitive to needs of all made it a little more expensive to picnic on the green. The Buccaneer Management is an old time family on ST Croix and the very best in the hospitality industry.

That is good news. I guess I will be bringing my clubs down. Considering I am going to be working at one of the resorts I might be able to get an employee benefit. Happy swinging and keep your head down. See you all real soon.

there are also specials running at different times throughout the year. Sometimes at Carambola you can play for $40 including the cart for all the golf you can get in after 3 PM or offers like that.

And don't forget the new putt-putt mini golf course at the Divi Hotel. 😉
