Is it common or somewhat usual to bump into the governor or other elected officials? I wonder if even though there are only some 50,000 people on STT, is it still enough that you pretty much never see people such as these individuals around the island?

These are small islands. Grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants. But, unless you are speaking about the governor, how would you know who they are?

I see Gov. DeJongh a lot at the airport (I work next to the airport) and I've seen Usie Richards several times. (I'd rather NOT see him, either! Remember that sexual harassment suit that never went anywhere??)

I've also seen Ronald Russell at the Complex school track.

If you ever watch the legislature in session on Ch 5 you'd recognize a lot of them, actually!

Here is the Seaborne website: http://www.seaborneairlines.com/

BTW, about celebrities...I think that Virgin Islanders are fairly cool about "famous" people. There are a lot of them vacationing, usually they get left alone. I had a friend who was bar tending when Paul Newman came in for dinner (his son has/had a fishing boat and he came during marlin season at one point.) The young waitress had no idea who he was, but just gave the table good service the whole night. My friend never said a thing, but just kept an eye on the proceedings. When he left, Paul Newman winked and said, "hell, the fall alone is gonna kill you." ...Oh, no that's not it.....He just winked and said "Thanks."

Carnival is always a good time to see the legislators and governor. They are always campaigning.

Lunch, happy hour and evenings in Frenchtown are perfect times for seeing all levels of elected VI government officials.

i like the idea of seeing those whom i elect out and about. i've never seen anyone for whom i've voted anywhere but on tv. it kind of makes it more personal in a way if you get to see them, i guess. are the elected officials well liked in general?
