Five weeks. Five more weeks before I feel the warm air & breeze again. Five long weeks before the turquoise water floats around me. An interminable five weeks before I see friends that I had to leave at the end of Aug when I returned to stateside. This past summer I spent July living on STX to see what it felt like to be there as a working resident rather than a 1-wk tourist visiting with a friend. By the end of July I had made new friends & felt so connected to the island that I had to cancel my flight home & stay another month. When I left the end of Aiug I was in tears as the plane took off over the water. I already missed the climate, the people, the incredible connection, the fun of weekend dancing, & of course the magic of the water. So, now I have my flt booked to come back Dec 1 & stay at least 2 months (will see if I can pack the bag at the end). Island friends send me pics & txt's of bands & sunsets & it makes me cry, then smile. For anyone wondering what the draw is to living on STX, it's hard to describe in simple terms. All the things I've mentioned, but more than that. The island has an almost living presence that pulls at the soul & never lets you go. Even from San Diego I feel it pulling me every day. Five more weeks!

From someone who has lived both in San Diego & here, I understand completely how you feel. 5 years in San Diego, always wanted to go back, then I came here and we are never leaving.
Five weeks isn't so long ! see you soon !

I know how you feel, I can only imagine. I am moving in January and I can't wait. Job or no Job, I am heading to STX.... I must say I am disappointed in not having a job, but listening to the talk show ( The Reef) that I found on the internet, it appears that the island is in bad economic shape. Oh well, I am still going...me and my Poodle. 🙂

Good idea to listen to the talk radio. I didn't realize until we got here that's a really great source of timely info.

Edited to add: And all the most informative are available live online.

I'll 3rd you on the love of STX over SD.
But I do miss my drive over the Coronado Bridge....

Beaches here are better too (but I'm not a surfer)
