Is there any chance that you would be able to adopt a fresh, sweet, male, orange striped tabby kitten to make someone's Halloween extra special on STX??

Or do you know someone who would love a new friend?

A stray cat at the Henry E Rohlson airport on STX had 5 kittens. I have been feeding them for the past couple of weeks (my office is next to the airport). They are about 6 weeks old now, or maybe even 7. I have been taming the smallest one, the orange kitty, and I could even pick him up and put him in my car by now!!

I need to find him a home. There are several reasons why I can't take him...

But if I can find someone to take him, I will take him to the vet and get him neutered and have his shots, worms etc. He is very sweet and would make a great pet for someone!

The others are not as tame and I want to get the trap from the Animal Shelter to get them and I really need to trap the mom, who might be pregnant again.

So anyway, would you want to take a sweet orange halloween kitty or do you know someone who would love him???

Please PM me if you can.

I don't know if lucky paws foundation has a branch in stx but you can call dellia to see. Her foundation operates the cat cafe's and offers low cost spay & neutering. You may be able to get mama cat and all the kitties done and set up a colony. They start reproducing very young and often.

Sorry, can't seem to find my cell for contact number. Look online. I'll post later when I find it.

Humane society here generally euthanizes all wild cats brought to them. Good luck.

thanks Alana

yes please send me her # if you have it.

I've already called the animal shelter and Sugar Mill vet clinic (which is affiliated with the Sunshine Foundation)

No one can come trap the cats for me but I can borrow/rent the trap and try to trap them myself.

Sugar Mill will spay/neuter them for $25 and can keep a female overnight to recover.

But they told me that they are overwhelmed with cats and cannot find homes for any of them.

This process will require several back and forth trips to the vet which I am willing to try as many times as I can, but this will have to happen during work hours so there's a limit to how many times I can do during work hours.

4 of the kittens have not been tamed and the mother still hisses at me.

The orange kitty is turning into a lover boy so he could easily go to a home. I hope someone on this board can take him.

thanks, please do Sky!
Someone out there has to want a sweet orange striped kitty!

The others are too skittish and don't seem to be able to be socialized but he is very friendly and would make a great pet.

340-513-1854 is number for lucky paws.
$25.00 is about the same as their donation for getting cats s/n.

The cost to them by the vets is around $95 per cat so all donations gratefully accepted. Dry cat food is good to put in traps but they simply cannot refuse the wet stuff, ever the most leary of cats will succumb. This is true for chickens and roosters as well. Can you get any traps from ag vet? Ag station should also have traps. If you speak directly to their vet, she may be inclined to lend you a trap. Her name is Bethany Bradford.

Btw, lucky paws is having a spay/neuter event in stt on October 25th,
So call to make an appointment if you have any cats that need to be s/n. See www.luckypawssttvi.org 340-513-1854.
You must make an appointment so they know how many animals to anticipate.

Kittens reach maturity by 4 -6 months and are therefore capable of breeding!

Good luck with your pumpkin boy!

thanks Alana!

I have found someone to take the orange kitty!!!

A coworker has fallen in love with him and he has taken to her as well. I will take him to the vet next week for his shots/etc and then he will go home with her.

As for the other cats, I will pick up the trap from the animal shelter next week and see how many I can trap at one time. I will take them to get spayed/neutered and then I will have to release them back, because they are still too skittish to become pets, even after I have fed them for 3 weeks now.

I've been feeding 2 stray kittens (and the mother) for about 2 months now and while they are still shy and won't let me pet them, they don't run from me any longer. I trapped the mama cat, had her spayed with help from lucky paws. The vet said she'd had kittens but hadn't seen them when I trapped her. She was wild but now sits on my doorstep every morning waiting for breakfast. The kitties came out of the bush shortly after. I trapped the orange male, got him neutered and need to trap the last one which is the most skittish. Problem has been I keep trapping the momma cat each time I set the trap. She has become quite tame and loves to be petted.

Glad your orange tabby has a home.
Good luck with the rest of the litter.

hi Alana

yes I am so happy I found someone to take the orange tabby. Tammi is right that ginger kitties are special, they are the most friendly ones!

Even better news is that someone contacted me thru this board and they might be able to help trap or at the very least lend me the trap.

He's going to meet me this afternoon.

That is wonderful that you help your wild kitties!! Stopping them from reproducing is the most important thing. I only hope I can trap the mommy easily because she needs to get spayed as soon as possible. She looks like she might be in the early stages of pregnancy already.

They breed so frequently that the only way to diminish the overpopulation is with a comprehensive trap, spay, neuter and release program such as lucky paws cat cafe's. Since these kitties have been on property, the rat/mouse population has diminished as my exterminator has mentioned.

Unfortunately, so many people do not spay or neuter their pets, then abandon them when they move, leaving them to fend for themselves, become prey for other wild animals, run over, poisoned, abused, and killed when turned over to a shelter due to overcrowded conditions.
Thank you for doing your part to help these unwanted animals.
