Hard to Find Items

Hi All,
I continue to be fascinated with all the information I'm picking up on this board. Thanks for all the excellent advice so far! Another moving question - we will have a 40' shipping container to move all our household goods, and from estimates so far, it looks as though we will have extra room once all our things are packed in. My question is this - Are there certain items that are always expensive on the island, or are there items that are often scarce or hard to find? I thought since we will have this extra room we might as well fill it up with things that are easily obtainable or inexpensive here and may not be so in St. Croix. Any thoughts?

About the only thing I can't get in STX that I have diffculty living without is Luzianne decafenated tea bags. Everytime I go to the states, I clean out the local Kroger. When friends or family come to visit, it costs them one 48 count box of family size bags. So far I have not run out. Of course it's only been two years.

Seems that all we will really need is already there! Even better!

If you have the room, bring generator. I brought 2 generators with me. They are expensive here and were half the price where I came from, in Calif.

You are a hoot Ronnie!! 🙂 He won't need the 40' shipping container for that package!

I would add inkjet cartridges, especially if you have a newer model. They can cost almost twice what you'd pay at Staples! Good luck with the move!

Hi there, I find that everything in the islands is more expesive so go double up on the big Sam's/Costco items for the household: cleaners, detergents, sponges, handi wipes, etc. Plus my favorite salon shampoos are a little difficult to find, and I buy loofas and face wash scrubbies in bulk when I find them. I also have a hard time finding dark chocolate which can be a real downer sometimes. Oooh and cintronella oil has to be cheaper stateside. The emphasis on cheap comes from the struggling graduate student in me.

Good luck, Kim
