health card
Hey, I have noticed some people say that when you move down you should get your health card pretty much as soon as possible, I am just wondering what a health card is? and does it cost money? I mean I have my own health insurance, so I am just curious, thanks!

If you will be working with food in any capacity, cook, server, etc., you need a card from the health department attesting to the fact that you are healthy. Do a search for the details.
For St. Croix:
The Health Card is necessary for all those who work in the food industry - bartneders, servers, cooks, runners, managers, etc...You have to go to one of the Medical Health Labs (I use Beeston Hill - it's the back building) and get a stool sample cup to check you for parasites. Once you have the sample, you go back to the lab and they charge you for looking at it and give you your results, which last 2 weeks. The charge, i think, is anywhere from $15-30. Once you have your results, you take them to the Charles Harwood Memorial Hospital in Richmond and get your ID card which lasts for one year. I think the card is like $30 too. Not totally sure. 773.1311 is the general number for the hospital - if you call and get transfered to the Health Card Department, they'll give you a better idea of the process once you have the results.
A valid health card is also necessary on STT for getting a business license in massage therapy and esthetics as well!
